      Using RFID Tokens

       

      For an organisation to use existing RFID/NFC devices instead of the standard Kura tokens, a number of pre-requisites are required.

      • A sample card/chip to be sent to Transport2 There are a vast number of NFC and RFID configurations, settings and types, validation that the mobile device is able to read the correct data from the card is necessary.
      • Each NFC/RFID card/chip when manufactured is given a Unique ID/Serial Number, this is either 8 or 10 digits. Kura uses this unique ID to assign the passenger to their passenger record. By using this unique ID, we increase the possibilities of reading 3rdparty cards as the data is not usually stored in an encrypted area on the card.  Some manufacturer systems create their own ID within their management system, this may not be the same as the serial number/unique ID.

      If you do not have the unique ID card in your system, it can be identified in the following ways:

      1. Scan the card with a NFC compatible mobile device which uses the NFC tools App. Upon reading the card data, the serial number is required.
      2. We can provide a USB powered card reader – the reader can be plugged into a computer where it will act similar to a keyboard. Any program and field can be selected, upon the card/chip being scanned, the serial number will be inserted.  Programs that are usually used for this are notepad, excel (where the field has been formatted as text) or direct into any organisation database system.
      3. The card number you read should be a series of letters and numbers (hexadecimal format) if this is not the format you receive then please contact us as we are able to provide an excel based convertor to ensure the serial number provided is the correct format. 
      • Upon establishing the Serial Number/Unique ID of each card/chip, this will then be stored in Kura, either via a bulk upload or the Kura web portal.  All cards/chips assigned to a passenger are managed in the portal.
